I feel fortunate to have lived and fly fished throughout South Florida, the Everglades and Keys
during the adolescence and maturation of salt water fly fishing. Salt water fly tackle was just
evolving and rods were slow, fly lines were sticky and just a few fly reels could handle the
speed of a bonefish or power of a tarpon. Only a handful of anglers had caught billfish on fly
by the mid seventies.
There were no forums or seminars like the Florida Keys Fly Fishing School in those days, but I
was lucky enough to share a skiff and a push pole with many great anglers and guides like
Flip, Chico, Steve Huff, Rick Ruoff, Jose, Al Polofsky and the late John Emery. Those friends
openly shared with me the knowledge, techniques and ardor that we now impart to anglers who
spend time with us at the Florida Keys Fly Fishing School.
Salt water fly fishing is the most exciting and dynamic form in all of angling. I hope you will let us
help you fly fish this watery planet with the skill acquired through knowledge and pure confidence
in your equipment.
